Hi, Roger - I had added this photo to my favorites shortly after I joined FAA and began exploring. This spring, the red-winged blackbirds coming back and posturing over their territories reminded me of it - the picture makes me laugh every time I see it or am reminded of it by the antics of the territorial little birds on my farm. They will threaten anything that enters their space, even their own reflection! Thanks for sharing this great capture and giving me many smiles.

Roger Bailey replied:

Thanks Conni. This is one of my favorites as well. When he landed next to my kayak I couldn't believe it. With my naked eyes it looked like he was standing on water. I didn't see anything there protruding above the surface but the zoom lens captured it. A more fitting title might have been " The Scolding " but I like the humorous one that I gave it. We have had a brutal winter that won't let go. I saw a flock of Redwings yesterday. I know they have been around for a little while but it was my first sighting this spring. No pictures.

About Roger Bailey

Roger Bailey

I was born an army brat in Ft.Rucker, Alabama. Penn Yan, NY was always home base. Much of the first years of my life were spent traveling due to my father's service. At the age of twelve I ended up in Branchport, NY where I have resided since 1972. I fell in love with the outdoors, hiking, hunting, & fishing. In 2007 I bought my first SLR camera not knowing anything about photography. I took a couple of beginner courses at the Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, NY and spent one weekend at a training seminar with the Rocky Mountain School of Photography. At one time I was a member of the Finger Lakes Photography Guild. Wildlife and nature are my favorite subjects to photograph. Living in the heart of the Finger Lakes...
